World number 25 Anastasia Potapova is the lower-ranked Russian in this third round clash but she certainly has the better form coming into it. Potapova played doubles alongside world number 13 Veronika Kudermetova in Stuttgart, with the pair also making the last four before defeat to the runners up, to add an intriguing layer to this third meeting on tour. Furthermore, Potapova beat her compatriot in straight sets to win her maiden WTA title at the Istanbul Cup almost exactly a year ago.
