THE PREDICTION

World number 21 Ugo Humbert had to come back from a set down to oust compatriot Hugo Gaston on Wednesday but beating the cult hero in France is no mean feat, even for a fellow Frenchman. 25-year-old Humbert ended last season victorious on home soil at the Metz Open, picking up his fourth ATP title overall, and he looks a strong contender in similar conditions – particularly as he will be backed vociferously as home favourite.

World number 24 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina beat in-form Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets on Thursday, backing up a comeback of his own against Gregoire Barrere in the first round. The 24-year-old leads Humbert 2-0 in their head-to-head record but a victory via retirement in the first round here this time last season hardly counts and it could well bolster Humbert’s resolve after a vengeful rise up the rankings. Davidovich Fokina is one of the more unpredictable, instinctive players on tour but the all-new and rejuvenated version of Ugo Humbert should be able to get a win on the board this time around. Back the Frenchman to win outright.

TIP: UGO HUMBERT TO WIN
