THE PREDICTION
This is the third meeting this season between world number 14 Tommy Paul and number 22 Francisco Cerundolo, with the Argentine winning their most recent encounter in three sets to win the Eastbourne International title. 24-year-old Cerundolo leads their head-to-head 2-1 after claiming both results this year, with Paul taking their first at Eastbourne last summer, but all three of their matches have gone to a decider on grass to make this first clash on a hardcourt very interesting indeed. 26-year-old Paul overcame Diego Schwartzman in three sets on Tuesday for an impressive start to his Toronto campaign whilst Cerundolo laboured to a three-set victory over wildcard Alexis Galarneau and the Argentine was forced to retire from his previous match in Hamburg to look the slightly more fragile of the two this time around. Paul claimed the biggest win of his career here over Carlos Alcaraz last summer and taking him to earn at least a set feels the most sensible way to lean in this very tight fixture.
