World number 17 Tommy Paul broke into the top 20 in January after a brilliant run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open was ended by champion Novak Djokovic. The 26-year-old is a solid all-courter but he has so far struggled on clay, taking a 1-4 record on the surface into Roland-Garros and into a really tricky opener against lucky loser Dominic Stricker. World number 116 Stricker is exactly the sort of player to make the most of a second chance after losing in the final round of qualifying and the Swiss only recently claimed a second Challenger title of the season on clay in Prague. Paul grabbed a good victory over Gregoire Barrere last week in Lyon but it is hard to see the American coasting through here. Back Stricker to earn at least a set in anticipation of a potential upset.
