THE PREDICTION

World number four Daniil Medvedev passed a significant test on Monday with a three-set victory over up-and-coming Hamad Medjedovic, backing-up a solid opener over Jack Draper. The 28-year-old has failed to defend any of his 20 career ATP titles, in fact never yet winning the same title twice, but it would be very much akin with his contrarian nature to do both here in Rome – where he claimed his first ever clay title a year ago to surprise himself as much as anyone else.

World number 16 Tommy Paul will be desperate to avenge his semi-final defeat to the Russian at Indian Wells back in March, where he played his bets match of the year and was still edged out from a set up, and he has quietly strung together two impressive wins over Aslan Karatsev and Dominik Koepfer without dropping a set. The 26-year-old is a solid all-court threat but Medvedev leads their head-to-head 3-0, also coming back from a set down to win on clay at Roland-Garros three years ago, to remain the favourite. Back Medvedev to win outright.

TIP: DANIIL MEDVEDEV TO WIN
