THE PREDICTION
World number 31 Tomas Martin Etcheverry reached the semi-finals of the Kitzbuhel Open last week before a tight defeat to eventual champion Sebastian Baez. The 24-year-old was the top seed in the final clay tour-level tournament of the season after excellent across the surface all year, particularly his run to the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros, but his chances at a maiden title in 2023 look over unless he can transfer some of that form to hardcourts. World number 32 Sebastian Korda reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open back in January, stunning Daniil Medvedev en-route, but he suffered an injury there that has seriously halted his progress since. The 23-year-old reached the semi-finals at Queen’s in a brief break of clean health but lost there to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz and he takes a three-match losing streak into this interesting first encounter. Korda will be by far the more comfortable in these conditions but Etcheverry is battle-hardened. Take Korda to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
