THE PREDICTION
25-year-old Frances Tiafoe set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 11th this week despite an early exit to Emil Ruusuvuori at the Barcelona Open last week. The American claimed his second ATP title at the almost washed-out Houston Open earlier this month by winning four matches in two days, including in the final against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. That was 23-year-old Etcheverry’s second final this season after he also finished runner-up to Nicolas Jarry at the Chile Open in February and the Argentine is also at a career-high of 59th for his efforts. Etcheverry will break that once again after an eye-catching 6-4, 6-0 demolition of Adrian Mannarino on Thursday and Tiafoe should find a bigger threat in this quick rematch. It is hard to confidently back Tiafoe until he wins a match post-Houston but the suitably cautious move here is taking the American to earn at least a set. Otherwise, consider taking this match to see at least one tiebreak as both of their sets were settled in that manner in Houston.
