World number 34 Tomas Martin Etcheverry is the top seed in Kitzbuhel and he played like it on Wednesday, beating Guido Andreozzi in straight sets to look a serious contender here. The Argentine has enjoyed a transformative season on tour to finish runner-up at both the Chile Open and Houston Open but his remarkable run to the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros will take some beating. World number 76 Daniel Elahi Galan came close to emulating the feat at Wimbledon with a hugely surprising run to the round of 16 before defeat to Jannik Sinner and the Colombian appears to be turning his season around this summer after a woeful start. Galan came back from a set down to oust in-form Daniel Altmaier on Wednesday, 10-8 in the final tiebreak, to look battle-hardened here but Etcheverry remains the favourite on overall clay form this year. Underestimate Galan at your peril, though, as the 27-year-old is well capable of occasional brilliance on court.
