23-year-old Tomas Martin Etcheverry can break the top 40 on tour for the first time with one more win here after out-lasting an injury hampered Jack Draper on Monday. The 23-year-old has finished runner-up at two clay events on tour this season, to Nicolas Jarry at the Chile Open and Frances Tiafoe at the Houston Open, and he also lost in the Bordeaux Challenger final coming into Roland-Garros to bring an excellent record on his favoured surface. World number 19 Alex de Minaur looked to exorcise a few recent demons on Monday with a four-set victory over Ilya Ivashka but the Aussie has struggled to rekindle the flames since winning the Acapulco 500 in March. The 24-year-old was raised primarily on Spanish clay to give him an excellent game for these conditions but this could be quite the battle, and likely thriller, against a ball-machine like Etcheverry. A first meeting between the two looks an outside candidate for five sets but back De Minaur to earn at least two of them as the likelier of two very capable winners.
