31-year-old Yannick Hanfmann set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 64th last week after an excellent run to the quarter-finals at the Italian Open, where he stunned two top 10 players in Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz before defeat to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev. The German fell in the last round of qualifying last week but a second chance as a lucky loser should make him a really dangerous opponent in the early rounds of Roland-Garros given his recent exploits in similar conditions in Rome and this looks a likely thriller on Tuesday. World number 98 Thiago Monteiro has played some of his best tennis this season too and featured in some exciting battles on tour, notably coming very close to ousting Borna Coric in a three-set defeat in Rome. Hanfmann leads the Brazilian 2-0 after a three-set tussle at the Munich Open last month and he can be backed to edge through outright here in a good candidate for five sets.
