THE PREDICTION

World number 71 Thanasi Kokkinakis has endured a really frustrating season on tour, with his maiden ATP title claimed on home soil in Adelaide early last season a distant memory. The 27-year-old clearly has enough ability to break inside the top 40 at least but it is a surprise to find that he is actually just two places away from a career-high ATP world ranking of 69th set in 2015, with injuries stealing so many of his best years. Former world number nine Fabio Fognini reached the third round of Roland-Garros back in June with a first round upset over 10th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime but the Italian has failed to win on tour since. Kokkinakis leads their head-to-head 3-0 after a straight-sets victory at the Australian Open in January and the Aussie should have the bets of things in these conditions. Take Kokkinakis to win outright, with three sets about as likely as two.
