22-year-old Anastasia Potapova comes into Roland-Garros at a career-high WTA world ranking of 24th and she will be eager to start strongly as a seed at a Grand Slam for the first time. The Russian has twice beaten Coco Gauff this season amongst some eye-catching results, with wins on clay against Caroline Garcia and Petra Martic at the Stuttgart Open last month suggesting she will need top 30 opposition at least to oust her in Paris. World number 108 Taylor Townsend qualified well this week to make the main draw here for a second season running. The 27-year-old is working her way back up the rankings from recent maternity leave but she has drawn a very short straw here. Townsend recently stunned Jessica Pegula at the Italian Open and a run to the Florence Challenger final last week suggests sets could go both ways here but back in-form Potapova to win outright.
