THE PREDICTION
Former world number four Kei Nishikori beat Juncheng Shang in straight sets on Thursday to continue his remarkable comeback to the ATP tour. The 33-year-old has moved back inside the top 400 on tour after back-to-back straight-set wins in Atlanta, his first tour-level appearance since late 2021, and he will be desperate to impress on this big stage against the top seed. World number nine Taylor Fritz has struggled with his form for much of the last few months but the 25-year-old started the Atlanta Open well on Thursday with a straight-sets victory over Yibing Wu, avenging a shock loss to the Chinese youngster in Dallas back in February. Nishikori leads the American 3-0 in their head-to-head but the pair have not played since 2019, since when Fritz has come on leaps and bounds and Nishikori has drifted away from his best. Leave this match out of an accumulator given Nishikori’s current anomalous status but Fritz should be able to squeak through here with a first win over the Japanese.
