THE PREDICTION

World number 71 Tatjana Maria made it six wins on the spin with a three-set victory over Ylena In-Albon on Tuesday in her first match since successfully defending her Bogota Open title. The 35-year-old has yet to face a player ranked inside the top 70 in this run, though, and world number five Caroline Garcia should still prove too steep a climb. 29-year-old Garcia suffered early exits at the hands of Sorana Cirstea at both Indian Wells and the Miami Open last month but she has since brought Bertrand Perret back into her coaching team, with whom she enjoyed the best run of her career last season, to suggest she is aiming to return to that better place. Both players are probably at their best on clay and the first set could come very tight given Garcia is yet to play on the surface this season, so backing Garcia to win outright is the suitably cautious pick here.
