THE PREDICTION

World number 76 Tamara Korpatsch takes on number 79 Yulia Putintseva for the first time on tour in what looks to be a tight contest on paper. 29-year-old Putintseva is a player capable of much better tennis than her current ranking suggests but she has failed to qualify for each of her last three tournaments despite two quarter-finals reached on tour this season in Hobart and Hua Hin. 28-year-old Korpatsch enjoyed an impressive run to her maiden WTA title at the Transylvania Open last October but she has claimed just two tour wins since, although she has looked competitive in most of her defeats. Leave this tough fixture out of an accumulator, with Putintseva one of the more unpredictable players on tour, but otherwise back the Kazakh to earn at least a set as the likelier to edge through.
