THE PREDICTION
This will be an intriguing forts tour-level meeting between world number 14 Hubert Hurkacz and number 39 Tallon Griekspoor, both 26, on a surface that neither player particularly enjoys. Both players did well to come through five-set slogs on Sunday, with Hurkacz overcoming David Goffin and Griekspoor outlasting Pedro Martinez, and an extra days’ rest should see them recovered enough to perform well here. Hurkacz arguably owns a lot more weapons than his Dutch counterpart but Griekspoor has so far enjoyed the season of his career with a maiden title won in January and some well-fought defeats to top players. Six of Hurkacz’s last eight matches on clay have seen sets go both ways and this match could well see five again between two hard-hitters but take the Pole to earn at least two of them as the likelier of two very capable victors.
