THE PREDICTION

World number 88 Nuno Borges grabbed an impressive straight-sets victory over in-form Dusan Lajovic on Thursday but this looks too steep a climb against last season’s runner-up. World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas is still far from away from the level that saw him finish runner-up to Novak Djokovic here last summer but despite a shock defeat to Jan-Lennard Struff at the Madrid Open last week he has looked relatively solid against players ranked outside the top 10. The defeat to Struff looked less concerning with each passing round that the German blasted through in Madrid but it will still knock another chip off of Tsitsipas’ already fragile confidence this season. It feels like the Greek is approaching some sort of intervention with his coaching set-up this year, something that should do him the world of good, but he should be coming through this opener with Borges in straight sets even at 80%.
