World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame a spirited Ben Shelton in two tiebreaks on Wednesday to set out his stall at the Cincinnati Open. The 25-year-old finished runner-up to Borna Coric here last summer and he should be considered an outside contender after recently winning the Los Cabos Open, his first on an outdoor hardcourt. World number 20 Hubert Hurkacz spoiled the chance at a rematch here after coming back from a set down to beat Coric on Wednesday. The 26-year-old has started to look a little like some of his better tennis is returning on court after he came within a deciding tiebreak of ousting Carlos Alcaraz at the Canada Masters last week but two three-setters this week suggests there is plenty of fragility remaining. Tsitsipas leads Hurkacz comfortably 7-2 in their head-to-head record but six of their last seven matches have seen sets go both ways to offer a suitable combination here.
