THE PREDICTION

World number two Aryna Sabalenka grabbed perhaps her most impressive result of the season in beating world number one Iga Swiatek in three sets, on clay, to win the Madrid Open for a second time. The 25-year-old won her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open back in January but beating Swiatek, who won their Stuttgart Open final three weeks ago, should boost her confidence even more as she now faces the very real possibility of reaching the top of the sport herself. Former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin will be up for this challenge after an impressive three-set victory over Cristina Bucsa on Tuesday but the world number 134 is still far from her previous best and it would be a surprise to see her take a set here. Sabalenka beat Kenin twice in quick succession in late 2018 in their only previous meetings and their levels have gone in different directions since then. Back Sabalenka to win in two.
