Former world number three Sloane Stephens moved back inside the top 40 on tour after winning a Challenger title last week, dropping just the one set to get some rhythm back into her game. The 30-year-old remains one of the most naturally talented players on tour but also one of the most unpredictable and erratic, making this first meeting with Nadia Podoroska well worth leaving out of an accumulator. World number 101 Podoroska is trying to improve her own ranking on tour after a long injury lay-off last season and the former number 36 is well capable of getting back to her previous best, particularly on her favoured clay. The Argentine has managed just one tour-level victory so far this season but it would not be a surprise to see Stephens’ level drop in this quick turnaround from title win to first round draw.
