27-year-old Sebastian Ofner received a bye to the round of 16 on tour for the first time after entering the Umag Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of 52nd. The third seed won the Salzburg Challenger two weeks ago before a strong run to the quarter-finals of the Bastad Open but it was his excellent run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros last month that first suggested something like this were possible. World number 90 Alexei Popyrin beat Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets on Monday to get a clay match in his legs after the recent grass swing but the Aussie looks set for a real challenge against a battle-hardened clay lover in Ofner. The 23-year-old is capable of tennis much better than his current ranking suggests but back Ofner to win outright here with plenty more recent form behind him.
