THE PREDICTION
World number 46 Sebastian Baez lost in straight sets to eventual runner-up Tommy Paul at the Eastbourne International last week to at least get a few grass-court matches in his legs. The 22-year-old is at his best on clay, on which he owns two ATP titles already, but he has proven himself a dogged competitor across surfaces and he looks the solid favourite to come through here. Baez beat Tomas Barrios Vera in three sets en-route to the Cordoba Open title in February but the Chilean qualified handsomely this week, edging past Thiago Seyboth Wild in five sets on Thursday to bring some real momentum into his second appearance ay Wimbledon and he took a set from Kevin Anderson in his first match here before defeat in 2021. Sets should go both ways in their second meeting with room to breathe over five sets but Baez should have enough to come through outright.
