THE PREDICTION

World number 12 Holger Rune and number 19 Sebastian Baez avoided tough opening draws in straight-sets apiece to look ready for a thrilling encounter on Monday. 21-year-old Rune beat Luca Nardi in an assured performance that contrasts heavily with his recent shortcomings on tour, with recent limp exits to Fabian Marozsan in Miami and Jan-Lennard Struff in Munich symptomatic of his poor overall form since last summer. The Dane leads Baez 2-1 in their head-to-head but they are 1-1 on clay, with Rune winning their first encounter at the Chile Open in 2021 and Baez returning the favour in Buenos Aires a year later.

23-year-old Baez won the Chile Open this season, making it back-to-back titles after lifting his most prestigious of now six career trophies at the Rio 500, but he brought a 2-5 record into Rome since. The Argentine beat in-form Dusan Lajovic in two tight tiebreaks on Saturday to look a serious threat to a vulnerable Rune here but back the Dane to earn at least a set as the player with the higher ceiling at their respective bests.

TIP: HOLGER RUNE TO WIN A SET
