World number 32 Sebastian Baez brings a hugely impressive 10-match winning streak into the US Open after claiming his third and fourth ATP titles at Kitzbuhel on his favoured clay and then Winston-Salem last week for a first on hardcourts. The 22-year-old upset top seed Borna Coric in the semi-finals there on Friday to look very competitive indeed in this quick rematch but Coric should not be underestimated at this level, particularly with five sets to find some better tennis. The world number 23 won the Cincinnati Masters last summer but struggled through a five-set opener in New York before a straight-sets defeat to Jenson Brooksby that suggests he is fragile but he set his best Grand Slam showing with a quarter-final exit here in 2020. Baez may struggle with the quick turnaround from title to first round but the uber-intense Argentine seems the kind of player capable of dealing with that added pressure. This match looks a considerable candidate for five sets so consider a one off on that or take Baez to earn at least two of them as the likelier of two very capable victors.
