World number 16 Veronika Kudermetova came back from a set down to beat Nadia Podoroska on Tuesday but she should be better for an early scare. The 26-year-old found the form of her career in May to reach back-to-back semi-finals at the Madrid and Rome Masters events but she was stunned by 43-year-old Venus Williams in Cincinnati last week in her first match back since an early exit at Wimbledon. World number 95 Sara Sorribes Tormo is far better than her current ranking suggests but the Spaniard is still looking for some consistency after returning from a long injury lay-off earlier this season. The Spaniard lost in qualifying but looked buoyed as a lucky loser in a strong performance against Katerina Siniakova, who was forced to retire injured in their second set on Monday. Sorribes Tormo beat Kudermetova in three sets at the Australian Open three years ago but the Russian has vastly improved since then. This is still a shaky call, though, so consider three sets on its own or back Kudermetova to earn at least one of them.
