THE PREDICTION

World number 87 Sara Sorribes Tormo conceded just three games to Susan Bandecchi on Tuesday to set out her stall as a genuine title contender at the Lausanne Ladies Open. The 26-year-old is steadily repairing her ranking after a long injury lay-off last season but she missed a trick last week in Palermo in a straight-sets defeat to Jasmine Paolini in the semi-finals after a strong campaign. Former world number 27 Tamara Zidansek won her maiden WTA title here in Lausanne two years ago but he Slovenian has drifted away from some serious potential ever since. The 25-year-old reached the semi-finals of Roland-Garros earlier that season before defeat to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and she has provided very little hype to get behind ever since despite possessing all the tools required to excel on clay. A straight-sets victory over fourth seed Lucia Bronzetti on Tuesday is a great start to this week’s attempt at reconciliation but Sorribes Tormo is a tough customer capable of waiting out a storm or two. Take the Spaniard to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
