26-year-old Roman Safiullin set a career-high ATP world ranking of 43rd last month after a remarkable run to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. The Russian was a promising junior with clear potential to excel at the highest level but the pandemic certainly affected his progress more than most players to see him playing catch up now. 30-year-old Marco Cecchinato set a career-high ATP world ranking of 16th back in 2019 after reaching the semi-finals of Roland-Garros the previous summer but the Italian has, incredibly, never won a Grand Slam match at any of the other three majors. Safiullin suffered an upset defeat by Juan Manuel Cerundolo at Winston-Salem this week to make it three defeats on the spin but he should be able to improve on that in this huge opportunity. Back the Russian to win outright.
