THE PREDICTION
World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas did well to edge through a tough opening match against Jiri Vesely on Sunday, coming back well from conceding the third set to survive a late scare in the fourth, The 24-year-old finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic in his first Grand Slam final here two years ago, capitulating from two sets up, and he fell to the Serb again in his second major final this January in three sets at the Australian Open. Three of the Greek’s last four titles have come on clay, including back0to-back Monte-Carlo Masters trophies in 2021 and 2022, but he has struggled to beat the best on his favoured surface to look a little out of sorts coming into Paris and this is no gimme against in-form Roberto Carballes Baena. World number 57 RCB broke the top 50 for the first time last month after winning his second title on clay at the Marrakech Open and a straight-sets victory over Emilio Nava on Sunday says he can cause Tsitsipas some strife here.
