World number six Holger Rune overcame an early assault by British wildcard in a first-set tiebreak after a rain delay before finishing off the match more comfortably in three. The 20-year-old has reached back-to-back quarter-finals at Roland-Garros on his favoured clay but he has impressed in parts of the grass swing, notably making the Queen’s semi-finals, to look a threat in the early rounds at Wimbledon. Rune’s ability should see him past most players outside the top 20 despite his inexperience on grass but world number 57 Roberto Carballes Baena should not be underestimated. The 30-year-old came back from a set down to beat young Matteo Arnaldi on Wednesday and he is enjoying the form of his career this year, breaking the top 50 on tour in April after claiming his second ATP title at the Marrakech Open. RCB beat Rune on clay at the Cordoba Open last season but Rune has since become a clear top 10 talent with room for further improvement. Three sets should so it but taking Rune to win outright is sensible here.
