World number 33 Grigor Dimitrov received a bye to the round of 16 at the Geneva Open as the fourth seed here but he could have done with a kinder first round draw than this tough opener against in-form clay specialist Roberto Carballes Baena. World number 58 Baena recently won the second title of his long career at the Marrakech Open on his favoured clay and he has since beaten the likes of David Goffin and Daniel Evans whilst taking a set from Alexander Zverev at the Madrid Open. 32-year-old Dimitrov put in some of his better performances this season at the Italian Open two weeks ago to beat Stan Wawrinka in straight sets and take Novak Djokovic to three before defeat but it has been a long time since the Bulgarian could be confidently backed to win matches. Dimitrov should be winning this match in straight sets at his best but backing Carballes Baena to earn at least a set, with a match in his legs already, could be the shrewd way to avoid picking a winner here.
