THE PREDICTION
This will be an interesting rematch between world number 24 Dan Evans and number 51 Roberto Carballes Baena after the Spaniard came back from a set down to beat Evans in the semi-finals of the Marrakech Open last month. The 30-year-old went on to win his second ATP title that weekend to set a career-high ATP world ranking of 49th and he is just two places behind that here in Rome. A straight-sets victory over Hugo Dellien was to be expected on Thursday but Evans will be eager to level things here as his form has improved since their last encounter, needing Carlos Alcaraz to oust him from the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open. Carballes Baena remains the favourite on clay, by far his favoured surface, but Evans rarely loses easily at this stage of a tournament. Back RCB to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
