THE PREDICTION

World number 23 Roberto Bautista Agut has endured a season of two halves so far after starting so well in Australia but struggling wildly over the last few months. The 35-year-old looks ready to enjoy the grass swing, though, after extending his excellent record over Daniil Medvedev to 5-2 on Friday with an impressive straight sets victory over the Russian that backed up a hard-fought result over Brandon Nakashima. RBA also shares a storied head-to-head with world number seven Andrey Rublev, whom he beat in three sets at Adelaide 1 in January to draw with 4-4 overall. 25-year-old Rublev came back from a set down to put out in-form Tallon Griekspoor on Friday to look very competitive in this potential thriller and the Russian has won four of their last six meetings to suggest he has the upper-hand here.

Three sets seem likely on their first encounter on grass but a lot of this match will depend on whether the roof is closed once again in Halle. Back Bautista Agut to earn at least a set here as a seasoned campaigner on grass to leave the victor up to chance, with a closed roof probably favouring Rublev best.
