22-year-old Rinky Hijikata comes into the US Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of 110th one year on from making his Grand Slam debut here with an impressive four-set defeat to Rafael Nadal. The Aussie beat Yannick Hanfmann in five sets on his debut in Melbourne back in January before a consummate defeat to eventual runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas and this first meeting with fellow youngster Pavel Kotov looks wide open, with sets likely going both ways.
