22-year-old Rinky Hijikata will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 112th after beating Abedallah Shalbayh in straight sets on Monday but the Aussie will have to improve significantly against one of the better grass-courters out there. World number 38 Adrian Mannarino beat Daniil Medvedev at the Libema Open last month and then stunned Taylor Fritz at Queen’s to reach back-to-back finals on his favoured grass before a gut-wrenching defeat to Christopher Eubanks in the Mallorca Open final. The Frenchman received a bye to the round of 16 here in Newport as the second seed and he should be considered a dark horse for the title behind the likes of top seed Tommy Paul and record title-holder John Isner. Hijikata is slowly making his way up the rankings but this should be too steep of a challenge against a practised Mannarino, whose two ATP titles have come around this time of the season. Back Mannarino to win outright.
