THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Richard Gasquet claimed the 16th ATP title of his long and illustrious career at the Auckland Classic back in January to suggest he has no immediate plans to retire but this could well be his last Roland-Garros. The world number 52 reached the quarter-finals here back in 2016 but he has reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2007 and 2015 as well as the US Open in 2013. World number 78 Arthur Rinderknech has endured a tough past 12 months on tour to bring a poor 4-9 record into Roland-Garros but the 27-year-old has at least won two of his last four on clay for some encouraging signs. This will be a well-attended, good-natured first encounter between the two Frenchmen but the Paris crowd will likely pull heavily towards the veteran, who is also far more comfortable than Rinderknech in these conditions. Back Gasquet to win outright.
