THE PREDICTION
World number 69 Rebeka Masarova put in some excellent performances at the Bad Homburg Open this week, beating Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Bianca Andreescu in straight sets before suffering an injury in the quarter-finals. The Spaniard has impressed across surfaces this season, finishing runner-up to Coco Gauff at the Auckland Classic on hardcourts back in January and more recently making the third round on home clay in Madrid, but this is a really tight call against Mayar Sherif, who will be seeded at a Grand Slam for the first time and eager to perform for Egypt. The 27-year-old comes into Wimbledon at a career-high WTA world ranking of 31st after some recent success son the Challenger circuit but she proved herself on the main tour with a huge run to the quarter-finals in Madrid, where she took a set from eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka before defeat. Three sets seem likely here so back Sherif to earn at least a set, as she did twice in Bad Homburg this week, to leave the victor up to chance.
