THE PREDICTION
World number eight Maria Sakkari finished runner-up to Coco Gauff at the Washington Open earlier this month, beating three tough foes in Leylah Fernandez, Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula en-route. The 28-year-old has won just one of three matches since, though, after defeats to Danielle Collins and Karolina Muchova ended her Masters runs early in Montreal and Cincinnati. The Greek certainly has an issue with both starting tournaments and ending them, with as many early exits as semi-final defeats in recent years, but this looks a suitably kind draw against Rebeka Masarova to get a foothold in. World number 74 Masarova has not won a tour-level match since the first round of Wimbledon in early July but the Spaniard is well capable of taking a set from Sakkari’s glass cannon of a game.
