Defending champion Rafael Nadal passed a serious test on Monday when he overcame rising star Jack Draper in four lengthy sets. THE PREDICTION
World number 65 Mackenzie McDonald put in exactly the kind of dogged performance he has proven himself capable of over the years at Grand Slams with a five-set victory over Next Gen ATP Finals champion Brandon Nakashima. The American’s singles performances have markedly improved since he started playing doubles alongside Marcelo Melo on tour, with their first title coming at the Japan Open last October. However, Nadal should be the better for a confidence boosting win over Draper and an early test could be exactly what the Spaniard needed after some capitulations from sets up so far in 2023. Straight sets is still a risk with the 36-year-old for now but he can be backed to win outright here.
