THE PREDICTION
21-year-old Jack Draper set a career-high ATP world ranking of 38th at the start of this season after enjoying some excellent results in 2022. The Brit stunned an in-form Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets to make the third round here last summer but he suffered an injury against Karen Khachanov, from a set up, in what has proved to be a common theme. Draper has managed to play only 19 matches so far this season to come into New York on a protected ranking at 123rd and he has retired injured from three of them, including last week against Tallon Griekspoor at Winston-Salem. Draper has clear top 20 potential when fit and firing but it is certainly worth leaving this match alone, or at least out of an accumulator, with his fitness in serious doubt. World number 102 Radu Albot has enough experience to stay patient in this match if Draper starts strong, with three sets a long time for the Brit to try and stay fit. The sensible move is leaving this match be but otherwise take Draper to earn at least a set.
