World number 31 Marie Bouzkova enjoyed an impressive run to the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters two weeks ago, beating Montreal champion Jessica Pegula en-route before having to retire against eventual runner-up Karolina Muchova. The 25-year-old looked fit again in a straight-sets victory over Ashlyn Krueger on Tuesday but this will be a tougher test against the deceptive Petra Martic as she aims to reach the third round in New York for the first time. World number 37 Martic is an excellent all-courter who has reached at least the round of 16 at all four Grand Slams, with her best showing a quarter-final exit at Roland-Garros in 2019 on her favoured clay. The 32-year-old conceded just three games to Tatjana Maria on Tuesday to suggest she is ready for a battle here but Bouzkova won their only previous meeting in straight sets, on a hardcourt, at the Guadalajara Open last season. This match looks a strong candidate for three sets so take that option on its own or back Bouzkova to earn at least one of them inside an accumulator with the better recent form.
