THE PREDICTION
27-year-old Beatriz Haddad-Maia set a career-high WTA world ranking of 10th after her superb run to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros earlier this month but she has fallen back to 13th after failing to defend her two titles won last summer on grass in Nottingham and Birmingham. The Brazilian came back from a set down to beat Marie Bouzkova on Tuesday and that first win since her efforts in Paris should see her much improved in this round of 16 clash with Petra Martic, who put out new Nottingham champion Katie Boulter in straight sets after coming through qualifying as a lucky loser. So many of Haddad-Maia’s matches have gone to three sets in recent times as a player who can often need backing into a corner before she finds her best stuff but world number 30 Martic is an excellent all-courter who has the benefit of a second chance behind her here. Consider a one-off on this match to see three sets but otherwise back Haddad-Maia to earn at least one of them.
