THE PREDICTION

This is a really tricky call in a first meeting between world number 78 Pedro Cachin, who has lost all of his seven matches so far this season, and number 148 Andrea Vavassori, who qualified the hard way with two three-set wins this week. 28-year-old Vavassori enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals of the Buenos Aires Open last month, with eye-catching results over Thiago Seyboth Wild and Laslo Djere before defeat to Carlos Alcaraz, but the Italian has very little experience at Masters level and next-to-no form to speak of on hardcourts. Argentina’s Cachin, also 28, won his maiden ATP title at the Gstaad Open last July, on his favoured clay, but just one tour-level win since is very concerning indeed. Cachin has earned a set in each of his last six defeats, though, to suggest there is a desire for change in his fortune. Given that Vavassori qualified by the skin of his teeth, back the Italian to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: ANDREA VAVASSORI TO WIN A SET
