THE PREDICTION
World number 34 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina received a bye to the round of 16 at the Mallorca Championships but he could have done with more matches on grass with less than a week to go until Wimbledon. The 24-year-old could miss out on a seed at SW19 if he fails to put a strong week together on home soil here and this is no gimme against world number 116 Pavel Kotov, who beat the Spaniard in straight sets in their only previous meeting at the Astana Open last season. Kotov, also 24, lost to Li Tu in qualifying this weekend but then came through as a lucky loser to gain immediate revenge over the Aussie and that sort of second wind momentum is very hard to stop. The sensible option is taking ADF to earn at least a set with home backing but the shrewd move could be taking the same option in Kotov’s favour to leave the victor up to chance. Leave this match out of an accumulator.
