World number six Ons Jabeur avoided a tough opening draw against in-form Magdalena Frech on Tuesday, ousting the Pole in straight sets to suddenly look a contender at Wimbledon. The 28-year-old finished runner-up to Elena Rybakina here last summer, losing from a set up in surprising circumstances, but she came into SW19 with far less expectation on her shoulders after a few absences from the tour through surgery and injury this season. A run to the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros was unexpected too and the Tunisian is arguably better on grass or, at least, there are fewer players as good as her on this most specialised of surfaces. 20-year-old Zhuoxuan will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 149th after beating Ysaline Bonaventure in straight sets on her Grand Slam debut but this looks way too steep of a challenge. The qualifier could have fared well in many other draws but Jabeur will be backed to the hilt as a popular player here and she can be backed to win in straight sets.
