THE PREDICTION

World number five Ons Jabeur battled the humid conditions and a bout of flu to impressively come past Camila Osorio on Tuesday, overcoming the thought of retiring mid-match to dig in well. The 29-year-old finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek here last season as one of three Grand Slam finals she has reached since last summer’s then-shock defeat to Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon, where she also fell in a surprise defeat to Marketa Vondrousova last month. Jabeur’s fitness is still in serious doubt with the conditions set to be just as abrasive on Thursday and 18-year-old Linda Noskova is a tough draw early on after conceding just three games in her opener over Madison Brengle. The Czech should break the top 40 on tour for the first time after an impressive run to the round of 16 at the Cincinnati Masters backed up a runners-up place on home soil at the Prague Open late last month and she beat Jabeur in the semi-finals of the Adelaide 500 back in January to reach her maiden tour final.

If Jabeur’s illness is fully behind her the Tunisian could be backed to come through unscathed but the suitably cautious move here is taking Jabeur to earn at least a set and the potentially shrewd one is backing Noskova to do the same.
