World number four Ons Jabeur enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the Charleston Open two weeks ago to beat Belinda Bencic in the final, avenging a loss to the Swiss at the same stage last season. The 28-year-old did not drop a set in Charleston to surge back into form sooner than expected after undergoing surgery earlier this season and she should be considered a serious title contender here on a five-match winning streak. World number 22 Jelena Ostapenko is certainly in the mix too as a former Roland-Garros champion from 2017 and she made short work of Emma Raducanu on Monday, blasting the Brit off the court to just three conceded games. Ostapenko and Jabeur share a 1-1 head-to-head record at tour level but this will be their first meeting on clay. Jabeur has earned at least a set in each of their two previous encounters to make taking her to match that the sensible option here but the Tunisian should be able to navigate a way past the Latvian eventually.
