THE PREDICTION

World number six Ons Jabeur conceded just two games to qualifier Zhuoxuan Bai on Thursday to maintain a perfect record through to the third round. The 28-year-old finished runner-up to Elena Rybakina here last summer in a surprise defeat that has proven to be less shocking since given how Rybakina has progressed on tour. Jabeur won the Charleston 500 on clay in April in her brief spell of full fitness this season but she looks strong at SW19 and confident on the surface, which sets her above most players here. World number 50 Bianca Andreescu is a player of top five quality on a hardcourt, with her remarkable breakthrough in 2019 culminating with a US Open title, but she is still far from comfortable on the ‘natural’ surfaces of clay and grass. The 23-year-old can beat anyone on her day but two three-set results so far suggest there is vulnerability there and Jabeur’s prowess in these conditions should eventually frustrate her. Andreescu’s win over Kalinina on Thursday says she can improve but back Jabeur to win outright here.
