World number seven Ons Jabeur is the top seed in Guadalajara with so many of the top players around her in the rankings falling foul of the WTA’s poor scheduling here. The 29-year-old has every chance of enjoying a strong run to the latter stages if she can get past this tricky opener but her recent performances have looked a little jaded and frustrated as she searches for her best level, last seen when shocking Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka back-to-back to reach a second consecutive Wimbledon final. World number 45 Alycia Parks comfortably beat Lauren Davis on Sunday to open her account in Guadalajara and she has all the tools required to thrive in these conditions with a huge serve letting her thrive on hardcourts, on which she won her maiden WTA title at the Lyon Open in February.
Jabeur at her best has plenty of answers for big servers but a defeat to Anastasia Potapova in San Diego last week makes this very interesting indeed.
