OLGA DANILOVIC First round of 16 at a Grand Slam

23-year-old Olga Danilovic reached the third round of Roland-Garros last summer and took the first set from Ons Jabeur before the best. The Serb has beaten her personal best at any Grand Slam with another stirring comeback over Donna Vekic, her second in a row after stunning Danielle Collins, via a 10-8 deciding tiebreak. A straight-sets victory over former semi-finalist Martina Trevisan was an excellent start to her campaign and she has been impressive since qualifying.

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA Through to round of 16 for first time since 2021

World number six Marketa Vondrousova finished runner-up to Ash Barty at Roland-Garros in 2019 and she clearly has a knack for ghosting through draws. The 24-year-old was never in the conversation for the Wimbledon title last summer, barely even before the final, but she can be unplayable at her best and she is well capable of stunning the field again this week.

A straight-sets victory over Chloe Paquet settled some nerves after a choppy second round win over Katie Volynets but she has yet to play someone ranked inside the top 70 this campaign.

OLGA DANILOVIC VS MARKETA VONDROUSOVA PREDICTION

Marketa Vondrousova beat Olga Danilovic in three sets at the United Cup back in January, on hardcourts and largely out of form following an injury-hampered end to what had been a superb 2023. The Czech is the more experienced performer at this level with recent encouraging signs of form, reaching the quarter-finals of the Italian Open three weeks ago, but she has enjoyed a kind draw so far against lower-ranked players.

World number 125 Olga Danilovic is her lowest ranked yet but the Serb is not playing like it, with her second round victory over Danielle Collins the pick of three huge results. This is a really tough call between two unpredictable talents but, given her experience at this level and on this court, back Vondrousova to earn at least a set to leave the result up to chance.
