NUNO BORGES VS TOMAS MACHAC PREDICTION
23-year-old Tomas Machac set a career-high ATP world ranking of 34th after a superb run to the Geneva Open final last weekend, where he upset Novak Djokovic in three sets in the semi-finals. The Czech will be rueing a missed opportunity, though, after losing the final to Casper Ruud despite his opponent being forced to play his semi-final earlier that day and there could be a hangover from the disappointment in this first encounter with Nuno Borges.
World number 47 Borges brings some excellent form on clay of his own into Paris after a huge run to the round of 16 at the Italian Open was ended by eventual champion Alexander Zverev. The 27-year-old reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open with some huge upsets over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Grigor Dimitrov but he is probably a little less effective on clay than hardcourts.
This looks a reasonable candidate for five sets but back in-form Machac to earn at least two of them as the likelier of two very capable victors.
